As the name implies, the Caly3 is the newest iteration of the Calypso2 and Calypso1 knives. Like comparing a classic Corvette to a modern Corvette, the Caly3 is an offshoot of the original Calypsos--a testament to the knives' durability and long-lasting appeal--but with improved functionality and design. The Caly3 features a high-end, laminated ZDP-189 steel blade made using 3 percent carbon, making it harder and higher on the Rockwell scale while preserving the sharpness. The blade is versatile and exact, with a PlainEdge that's ground flat for precise cutting. The buffed carbon-fiber handle, meanwhile, is shaped so that the index finger sits on the underside and the thumb naturally above the jimped slip-resistant spine. As a result, the knife feels like part of the hand, with a controlled grip and no forward or backward slide while cutting. Other features include an ambidextrous deep-pocket-carry tip-up wire clip and a mid-positioned back lock.

The Spyderco Caly3 is an evolution of our popular Calypso folder. True to the heritage of the Calypso 1 and 2, it offers exceptional ergonomics that make it feel like a natural extension of the hand. its scientifically-designed handle profile features stunning polished carbon fiber scales over a sturdy framework of skeletonized stainless steel liners. Its leaf-shaped blade is constructed of three layers of laminated steel. The core is ZDP-189, an extraordinary steel that contains 3% carbon for exceptional hardness and edge retention. It is sandwiched between two layers of 420J2 stainless steel that provide increased strength and corrosion resistance. Like a fine Samurai sword, the boundary between these layers is visible near the blade edge--a reminder that you are cutting with the very best! The blade locks open via a sturdy back lock mechanism and an ambidextrous deep-pocket wire clip provides tip-up carry on both the left and right sides.
